In 1975, a hometown band penned and recorded a song called “Searching For a Rainbow”. I’m sure you recall the Marshall Tucker Band! Anyway, I kept hearing the tune in my head tonight and couldn’t understand why the song stayed with me. Now, I know. It reminds me of the many events that our country is working through.
There was a verse to the song that went something like this:
This old mare I’m ridin’ she gettin’ kinda tired
But in my heart she knows there’s this one desire
She’s gonna take me to the end of our road
Then she’ll lay down and die and I’ll say “God, rest her soul”
And I’m searchin’ for a rainbow
And if the wind ever showed me where to go
You’ll be waiting at the end then I’ll know
I’ll say to hell with that pot of gold
It’s so easy to relate these lyrics to our present situation with our war on terrorism. The old mare, meaning our fighting forces in a foreign land, who for many nights and days now, giving their all, so that justice be served. I’m sure it would be good if our men and women could just “lay down and rest” for a spell, but, duty will not allow. The rainbow that is ahead is the death of terrorism. Their pot of gold is to come home safe and sound.
I’m sure everyone involved in this intense battle would say to hell with the pot of gold, if they knew their own lives sacrificed would mean an end to this crazy battle that has been launched. However, knowing that it was launched on our soil, makes the battle more fierce. These soldiers have given up everything so the rest of us may be free. No, it’s not a patriotic line, it’s a fact. There’s no aspirin factory here to bomb or a milk factory to expose. This is the real deal.
We cannot even realize the strength and courage it takes for our military people to wage this war. This is territory that is not advantageous to our people at all. Yet, we see and hear of the superb results daily of how well our troops are doing. That’s why I don’t understand all the backlash and the whiners railing against this war. Yes, this is a war, people. These rogues attacked us on our home turf. If you cannot understand why we are there, doing what needs to be done, I suggest you check back in with your nearest hall of education and take a refresher course.
It’s bad enough that the news anchors seem to think they cannot be “patriotic” when delivering the news. That comes as no surprise, as they’ve not been patriotic any other time. You could take the lot of these inept twits and cast them before swine, and the swine would ask what they had done to deserve this!
Cold? Harsh? Maybe, but reality. We don’t need stinking news outlets to tell us how wrong we are. I would wager that if they had family or friends lost in the WTC attack, they would sing a new song…then again, maybe not, since puppets have no original thoughts anyway. I say “Once a stooge, always a stooge”. No offense to stooges everywhere!
Hopefully, the mass media will hook up with this rainbow and see the pot of gold at the end. What will it be? It’s called, freedom, Danno…It’s called Victory, Little Peter Jennings. It’s called vindicated, Tommy! Ya dig? You guys can go on singing your songs of peace, but as for me and my house, we will fight the good fight. We will not bow down to the Leftist Estate. We are America! We are American! I say to you, alphabet channels…use it or lose it! Find your own rainbow.
God Bless Our Troops.
